Subsistence Guarantee from Students outside the EU/EEA Area
Students outside the EU/EEA area are required to document a financial subsistence guarantee, amounting to 140 percent of the “room-and-board minimum fee” as a condition to be granted a residence permit to attend a folk high school in Norway.
For all students from outside the EU/EEA area the required guarantee amount for the coming school year will be NOK 122 371.

Students from the other Nordic countries, EU/EØS countries and Ukrainian refugees with collective protection
Students from the other Nordic countries, EU/EØS countries and Ukrainian refugees with collective protection, are on an equal basis with Norwegian students.
For students from inside the EU/EEA area (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Rumania) the requirement for a subsistence guarantee does not apply, but you have to register.

What are you paying for?
- Enrollment fee (NOK 2,900) Paid when you accept the school place
- Board and lodging (NOK 94,500) All meals at the school and a share of costs for cleaning the common areas
- Course fee (NOK 18,000) cover materials, equipment, books, outings/excursions, study tours etc. The course fee is a calculated sum that is settled against actual consumption at the end of the school year.
- Joint costs: Expenses for joint trips, travel insurance, cultural events organized by the school, school picture, laundry, photocopying, free use of the internet, newspapers and other joint expenses. (14,500 NOK) **) Deposit NOK. NOK 1,500 is paid in addition at the first payment. You will get the deposit back at the end of school if the key to your room is returned and the cleaning of the room approved.*
Additional expenses
- You must set aside some pocket money, both at school and on the study trips. With an average consumption, you need about NOK 2,000 a month

Payment plan
- The first invoice must be paid on 15 August. It costs NOK 6,000
- The second payment is on 1 September
- The last 8 payments are made on the 15th of each month
- If you have paid a subsistence guarantee in advance, the payments will be deducted from the subsistence guarantee
Interrupted school year
If you give up your school place in the period 18 August - 28 August 2025, this entails a cost of NOK. 5000.
If you interrupt the school year after it has started, you must pay school fees for the following 6 weeks. This applies regardless of the reason why the school year is interrupted.
Scholarships and grants
Fana folkehøgskule does not have any scholarships or grants available for international students.
